In article <S845.311b@clarinet.com>, jpn1@cornell.edu says... > >[Heard on the radio recently in Ithaca, NY] > >"Marine biology researchers have developed a new method to fend >off shark attacks. If you are diving and are approached by a >shark they recommend that you swim towards it aggressively and >punch it in the nose as hard as possible." > > >"If this doesn't work, beat the shark with your stump." Reminds me of the guide to Yeloowstone park I read the first time I visited. The guide had instructions on how to spot the difference between a Grizzly bear and Brown Bear. Apparently when challenged by a bear you should try to climb a tree (real easy in Yellowstone where most of the trees don't have any branches for the first 30 feet) Anyway if you succeed in this endeavour you'll know which type of bear it was because the Brown bear will climb the tree after you (and do it much quicker than you can), the Grizzly will just knock the tree down.
