I went to a convention recently in Las Vegas (big, glittering city in the middle of the desert, millions of flashing light displays everywhere, extravagent fountains flowing, gas fired eruptions belching out of them every fifteen minutes, all going on 24 hours a day--you know the place). Inside the door of my hotel room were posted the "Hotel Rules." After the usual "Lock your door at night" and "Don't leave valuables unattended in room" was this rule: "Help solve the nation's energy crisis: Please turn off all lights and TV when you leave."
