My wife remarked today (the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day landing in Normandy) how all the news shows were carrying stories on the celebrations. They must have been planning them for a long time, but she hadn't heard anything about it until quite recently. "That's because they had to keep the plans secret, so that the Germans wouldn't find out about them," I explained. [ Historical note: The Germans were our enemy in 1944, and were occupying France.
