The _Washington Post_ recently featured an article about the December mishap that occurred when U.S. women's luge competitor Bethany Calcaterra-McMahon accidentally ran over the leg of head German luge coach Sepp Lenz. Lenz, who was unable to get off the track before Calcaterra-McMahon made her training run, had his leg severed cleanly below the knee. Calcaterra-McMahon was moving so fast that she did not realize she had even hit Lenz until she reached the bottom of the run. Tonya Harding, seeking a compromise with the U.S. Olympic Committee, has reportedly asked to compete in the luge if she is barred from the figure-skating competition.
