The following is a report I received from a friend who loves onion soup but doesn't want the smell in the house so he bought a small propane gas burner.

"The best laid plans o' mice and men
Gang aft a-gley,
And leave us naught but grief and pain
For promised joy." (Robert Burns)
My great experiment--cooking onion soup on the deck-- was an abject failure. I neglected to take 2 things into consideration, namely:
1. The butane canisters that fuel the stove, and that contain liquified butane, do not provide a very good flame when the temperature is 32 degrees F.
2. On a very windy day, when the temperature is 32 degrees F, the feeble flame tends to get blown out. Often.
I took the whole experiment indoors and cooked the onions in the kitchen. The resulting soup has yet to be tasted, but everything I own has to go into the washing machine tomorrow. Even the cat.
A lesson learned.
