Events and Performance

Events and Performance

Burning Man is never static. Some of its art is static, but some is performance or scheduled events. In 1999, the theme of the wheel of time was instantiated one night by having a series of events move around the great clock of the city. Other events happen on schedule or at random.

Turns out most of my favourites were captured at night.

(683 x 1024 - 59K)
The Tesla coil was truck mounted, and would drive around camp doing a show. This time, a man in a metal suit let most of the sparks fly off him.

(1280 x 854 - 123K)
WoodPussy announced they would send a rocket into space at 9. It was just an excuse for a good fire show, of course. Here's the rocket going off. 10 seconds later it went thud on the ground and the real show began

(1280 x 854 - 65K)
After launching their fake rocket, WoodPussy had their crew run around with huge sets of fireworks mounted on their heads.

(1280 x 854 - 45K)
Another shot of the rocket going off.

(1280 x 854 - 46K)
The clock tower burns at midnight, ending the procession around the hours of the clock.

(1280 x 854 - 77K)
As the clock tower burned, it created a tornado

(1280 x 854 - 77K)
K., in her suit of glowsticks, watches the clock tower burn.
