One of the classic textbooks in medicine is "Obstetrics," by Whitridge Williams. There is a little editorial comment buried in the index. The entry reads,
Chauvinism, male, variable amounts, [pages] 1-923
Apparently they never noticed, because the next edition of the text has a similar entry, taking into account the fact that textbooks almost always get bigger rather than smaller,
Chauvinism, male, voluminous amounts, [pages] 1-1102
This really makes me want to hit the local med school library and see if there's a seventeenth edition out yet...
