This happened today. A neighbor called for some PC advice, and after hearing her error messages I told her she had run out of memory. She complained that this couldn't be the problem, because when she had gotten the same error message just moments before, so she had reset the word processor to single-spaced lines..... so she would only use half as much memory. Swear it's true.
