This really happened, and I believe falls into the "...from the mouths of babes ..." category. While explaining the word "environment" to my three-year-old daughter, I used the word in several contexts, ending with the generic usage of "nature." At this point I said, "Nature is the environment we all live in." She replied, "Daddy, we don't live in an environment." "No??" said I. "No," she said with confidence, "We live in California."
