I was thumbing through Strunk and White's Elements of Style, Third Edition.
Under "Misused words and expressions" on page 61:
This. The pronoun "this," referring to the complete sense of a
preceding sentence or clause, can't always carry the load and so may
produce an imprecise statement.
Under "An approach to style" on page 79:
[...] Usually we think only of the ludicrous aspect of ambiguity; we
enjoy it when the Times tells us that Nelson Rockefeller is "chairman
of the Museum of Modern Art, which he entered in a fireman's raincoat
during a recent fire, and founded the Museum of Primitive Art.
This we all love.
