As quoted from the Jan 93 issue of "The Progressive": Major Monte Ladner, a US Army physician, decided to seek conscienctious-objector status while he was treating wounded soldiers and civilians during the Gulf war. But the Army's Conscientious Objector Review Board has turned down his application for discharge, question- ing Ladner's sincerity because "as a doctor, Major Ladner is involved in killing forms of life that can be seen as having a path to live, such as viral and bacteriological entities."
