Plant a Tree...Get a tax break

karenr@athena.mit.edu
(original, smirk, true)

For many years there was a "Plant a Tree in Israel" campaign
going on in temples and Jewish organizations across the USA. It was
the favorite charity for donations in someone else's name, etc. This
is an original variant on the old joke of the tourist who goes to
Israel expecting to see his name stenciled to a tree.

A friend in Jerusalem was saddened by the fact that a beautiful tree
in his garden was threatening the house, and needed to be chopped
down. I asked him "When a tree in Israel is cut down, which US Jew
gets his money back?"
