In Europe (the EEC) we appear to have diverged from American teaching in the 90's: 1990's (EEC) ------------ A farmer produces, at a cost of $8, a bag of potatoes which used to sell for $10 during the 1980's. However, he has produced so many potatoes that there is no longer any demand, so he adds this bag to an ever increasing pile of already rotting potatoes and the government gives him $14 in compensation. Explain why social conditions were not ripe in previous decades for this method of doing business to be effective. ----- Ed Jones, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, England
