In a laser-printer manual I was reading today I found a table entitled `Meaningful control codes' The first entry is NUL (0) Null. Used for filling in time during transmission or space on media. Others include BBS (08) Back space. Causes impact-type printer [sic] to move the print element one space to the left. In [this printer], BS has this effect only if it is the first code in the print line. DEL (7F) Delete. Indicates that subsequent data is to be ignored. Neat printer. Now I know what I should be using to fill all that unused space on the disk... Lee [I have omitted the name of the manufacturer out of compassion...]
