European Dimensional Unity announced The countries of the European Economic Community have agreed to implement "European Dimensional Unity" by 1992. This means that countries will be free to use their own weights and measures, but the exchange rates will henceforth be fixed. U.K. Prime Minister Mrs Thatcher has long opposed this, preferring to 'float' the ounce and the mile against other units. Today on the London stock market the pound gained 3 milligrams against the kilogram, finishing at 0.453 kg. Long terms plans to introduce a European Distance Unit, or EDU, have been shelved.
