Anyone ever tried making home-made alphabet soup? God, it's a tedious business. You get these bits of spaghetti, you cut them up into 1 inch lengths, and then you have to start tying them into weird shapes. Most of them come undone when you actually cook them. Greek alphabet soup (I am into foreign cookery) is the hardest to make. It has all these wretched xi-like squiggly letters which I just can't get right, and I'm afraid the capital xis just keep falling to pieces. Don Knuth is said* to be working on a set of mathematical fonts suitable for alphabet soup recipes. Indeed he is going to open a pasta restaurant and call it The Happy Eta. *By me
