Like me, one of the parents of a boy on my son's soccer team is epileptic. At a soccer meet on Saturday, she had a seizure, and I took the opportunity to invite her son to lunch with us, so that he could explain to my boy about epilepsy.
After lecturing my son on all the things he is supposed to do if I seize, like calling 911 and asking an adult for help, I encouraged him to talk with his teammate about what it's like to have an epileptic parent.
I thought it went very well, so I decided to have a little pop quiz: I asked my son "What would you do if I had a seizure here in the restauant, and fell over?"
The little one reached over, stole another one of my french fries, and said, "I'd eat your cheesburger!"
